10/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 March, the Eurogroup endorsed the European Commission’s assessment of Belgium’s Draft Budgetary Plan for 2026. "We welcome the submission of this plan and agree with the Commission assessment that this plan is considered compliant with the net expenditure path recommended by the Council” of the European Union, said the President of the Eurogroup. According to the Commission, the Belgian Draft Budgetary Plan forecasts net public spending growth of 5.8% in cumulative terms in 2026 (the threshold set at 6.1%), as part of the excessive deficit procedure against Belgium. According to the Belgian Draft Budgetary Plan, growth will reach 1.1% of GDP in Belgium in 2026, the deficit will be reduced from 5.2% of GDP in 2025 to 4.9% in 2026 and public debt will rise from 107.3% to 110.1% of GDP over the same period.
