On Wednesday 4 February, the ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) voted by secret ballot in favour of appointing François-Louis Michaud (French) as Chair of the European Banking Authority (EBA), replacing José Manuel Campa (Spanish), who resigned for personal reasons (see EUROPE 13710/29).
Executive Director of the EBA since September 2020, Mr Michaud was Deputy Director General of the European Central Bank (ECB). He was competing with Constantinos Herodotou (Cypriot), former Governor of the Bank of Cyprus.
The Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council will write to the European Parliament to inform it of the candidate selected by the Member States. The EU Council will only give its final approval after receiving confirmation from the MEPs who will interview Mr Michaud. He is expected to be appointed for a renewable five-year term.
