04/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – At the annual European Blue Economy Conference, on Tuesday 3 February, the European Commissioner for Fisheries, Costas Kadis, presented the actions to come under the European Ocean Pact. A ‘high-level Ocean Pact Board’ will soon be established to advise the European Commission on the implementation of the Pact, and the first report on the state of the Ocean Pact will be published by the end of 2026 (see EUROPE 13784/13). The next Ocean Act is expected to be presented by the end of 2026. It will provide “a clear legal framework” for ocean governance, bringing existing ocean-related targets under one roof. “It will not create new obligations. Instead, it will streamline legislation, improve coherence and support effective implementation of ocean related policies in a coordinated manner—while fully respecting better regulation principles”.
