16/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – In the early evening of Monday 15 September, the European Banking Authority (EBA) announced that its Chairman, the Spaniard José Manuel Campa, had informed the Board of Supervisors of his decision to resign at the end of January 2026 “because of personal, family-related issues”. In office since 2019 (see EUROPE 12197/28), Mr Campa will continue to be fully committed to the EBA to ensure a smooth transition and “minimise any possible disruption at this time of change”, the Banking Authority added in a statement. The EBA has therefore launched the procedure for selecting a new Chairperson. In February 2024, the EU Council reappointed Mr Campa for a second five-year term. Mr Campa is a former executive of the Spanish banking group Santander and was Spain’s Secretary of State for the Economy between 2009 and 2011. (MB)
