European Commission consults on simplifying rules

On Tuesday 16 September, the European Commission announced that it had launched a call for evidence to gather opinions on work in progress to simplify and modernise several aspects of EU food and feed safety legislation.

The future ‘food safety omnibus’ will introduce measures to simplify legislation in areas such as plant protection products, biocidal products, feed additives, hygiene requirements and official controls at EU borders.
