An error has crept into our article on the report by Alícia Homs Ginel (S&D, Spanish) on quality traineeships (see EUROPE 13709/2).
The published document does not represent the latest definition of traineeships. The European Parliament now defines traineeships as a “limited period of entry-level work aiming to provide practical and professional experience and skills through a significant learning and training component, with a view to facilitating the transition from education to a standard employment relationship or accessing a profession”.
It does not make strict reference to a traineeship agreement or pay, as this would legally limit the scope. However, the report states that “to ensure decent working conditions for trainees, trainees will have to be provided with a written agreement, containing, for instance, the pay, in accordance with national law, collective agreements or practice and, where applicable, with the Minimum Wage Directive”.
With regard to trainees’ rights, work placement organisations should offer access to social protection in accordance with national schemes. Examples relating to health insurance, unemployment benefit or contributions are given in the recitals. (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
