On Tuesday 23 September, European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries protested against what it considers an unacceptable proposal for funding the common fisheries policy (CFP) for the period 2028-2034 under the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
MEPs deplored a two-thirds cut in funding, criticised the new budget structure (single national plan) and expressed fears of the CFP’s renationalisation and unfair competition between European fleets (see EUROPE B13714A2).
