10/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament is aligning itself with the European Commission’s simplification proposal for the batteries regulation (see EUROPE 13645/2). On Thursday 10 July, MEPs adopted the report by Antonio Decaro (S&D, Italian), who proposed taking up the Commission’s proposal unchanged. Since the Council did the same a few weeks ago (see EUROPE 13663/11), the text can now be adopted without negotiations between the two institutions. The aim is to postpone by two years the application of certain parts of the batteries regulation concerning the obligations on battery producers to report on their due diligence. The relevant provisions will not come into force until 2027. (LM)
