TikTok retracts its declarations regarding data transfers to China, EU opens a new investigation procedure

On Thursday 10 July, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), which acts on behalf of the EU, announced that it had opened a new investigation into TikTok’s transfers of the personal data of EU users to servers located in China.

This investigation follows erroneous information from TikTok, which claimed that data transfers to China “only took place via remote access”, and that the data “was not stored on servers located in China”.
