10/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – In the resolution it adopted on Thursday 10 July (511 votes in favour, 50 against and 75 abstentions), the European Parliament condemned the arbitrary and prolonged detention of Ryan Cornelius, a British national “arbitrarily detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since 2008, following a conviction on false fraud charges related to a loan from Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) for a property development project”. It called for his immediate and unconditional release and that of all the other people arbitrarily detained. It calls on the United Kingdom to take all necessary measures to secure the release of Ryan Cornelius and asks the EU to raise his case in all bilateral exchanges with the United Arab Emirates and to closely monitor the conditions of his detention.
