On Monday 7 July, the European Commission presented its ‘roadmap’ for establishing ‘nature credits’. They should “complement public funding” by facilitating “investments in activities that benefit nature”.
The European Commissioner for Environment, Jessika Roswall, considers her proposal to be relevant, given that “75%” of companies in the EU rely on nature in one way or another. She notes that at this stage, “80% of nature in Europe is in a mediocre state”.
