In a new report, energy think-tank Ember reveals that the June – July 2025 heatwave in Europe, with local temperatures exceeding 40°C, increased daily electricity demand by up to 14% due to the greater use of air conditioners.
The change in demand, combined with outages at thermal power plants, also led to a significant rise in electricity prices. During peak hours on 1 July, prices reached over €400/MWh in Germany and over €470/MWh in Poland.
