China has retaliated “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” in its dispute with the EU over medical devices. On 20 June, the European Commission decided to restrict the access of Chinese medical devices to European public procurement worth more than €5 million (see EUROPE B13664A23). While this European decision was in response to Chinese restrictions, it did not prevent Beijing from going one step further and imposing reciprocal measures on medical devices from the EU.
