18/06/25 (Agence Europe) – In a press release issued on Tuesday 17 June, Insurance Europe, the European insurance and reinsurance federation, said that the draft regulation on access to financial data (FIDA) (see EUROPE 13654/21) needed to be simplified as a matter of urgency if it was to achieve its objectives without unnecessarily increasing burdens on businesses. While the federation welcomes certain progress that has been made – notably the exclusion of gatekeepers and a focus on retail customers – Insurance Europe is calling on the EU institutions, who are currently in negotiations between the European Parliament and the EU Council (‘trilogue’), to refocus the text on gradual implementation, a narrower scope of data, “realistic” deadlines and stronger safeguards to protect sensitive consumer data.
