18/06/25 (Agence Europe) – On the evening of Tuesday 17 June, the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR) in the European Parliament welcomed the rejection in plenary session of the draft report prepared by Charles Goerens (Renew Europe, Luxembourger) ahead of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville. The ECR group’s shadow rapporteur, Waldemar Tomaševski (Lithuanian), criticised the text which, in his view, promotes excessive EU control, as well as concepts such as “gender budgeting” and “global tax governance”. Mr Tomaševski also criticised the desire to sideline the role of national governments in shaping development priorities. For their part, the centre-left groups in the European hemicycle strongly deplored the outcome of the vote, believing that it undermined the EU’s responsibility on the international stage (see EUROPE 13661/21).
