On Wednesday 18 June, the European Parliament Committee on Employment and Social Affairs assessed the possibility of Amazon lobbyists regaining permanent entry badges to Parliament, ahead of a new session on working conditions in the American company’s warehouses scheduled for 26 June.
According to the head of the Committee, Li Anderssen (The Left, Finnish) possibility of restoring permanent badges to Amazon’s representatives was not guaranteed, however, as the company had refused to send the people best able to respond to the elected representatives by 26 June.
The hearing will involve workers and their representatives from Germany and Poland, and include company managers at EU level.
The EMPL Committee had given Amazon a deadline of 17 June to change the proposed contacts, which it refused to do on the evening of 17 June, according to an European Parliament source.
In the absence of a new proposal from Amazon, the badges will remain deactivated.
In February 2024, the EMPL Committee asked the European Parliament to freeze the passes of ‘Amazon’ lobbyists after the company refused to take part in hearings on working conditions (see EUROPE 13529/26). (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
