Employment Committee will decide whether to give Amazon lobbyists access to European Parliament only after a hearing and on-site mission

21/11/24 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 21 November, the coordinators of the European Parliament’s Employment and Social Affairs Committee decided to examine working conditions in Amazon’s warehouses. The company will first have to attend a hearing before Parliament’s Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL). The EMPL Committee will then decide whether it agrees to restore unlimited access to the European Parliament for Amazon lobbyists, which it denied them in February (see EUROPE 13526/16). European trade unions, including UNI Europa and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), sent a letter to legislators on Monday 18 November to explain these working conditions. The letter also invited them to take into account Amazon’s history of union busting and refusal to engage in collective bargaining in their deliberations.
