On Thursday 21 November, Hungarian Minister for European Affairs János Bóka complained in a letter to the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE) about its refusal to welcome the Hungarian justice and interior ministers, Bence Tuzson and Sándor Pintér, to discuss the priorities of the Hungarian presidency of the EU Council.
The LIBE Committee has twice postponed this potential presentation, first on 19 October and then on 21 November. In particular, the minister deplores the fact that LIBE wants to link this presentation of priorities to the organisation of a new hearing on the Rule of law.
The LIBE Committee wanted to link the two issues and wanted the minister of justice to be the competent minister to debate the Rule of law, confirms a source. The LIBE Committee refused János Bóka’s request to take charge of this debate on the Rule of law, believing that the minister of justice should be the reference person for this debate and wishing in particular to avoid a communication campaign on the part of the minister for European affairs.
