Social democrats in European Parliament welcome “good proposals” on simplification of future ‘FiDA’ financial data sharing framework

On Wednesday 4 June, the shadow rapporteur for the Social Democrat group in the European Parliament, Eero Heinäluoma (S&D, Finnish), expressed his group’s support for the simplification measures currently under discussion on the future framework for access to financial data in the EU (‘FiDA’), “provided they do not affect the core policy objective” of the European Commission’s legislative proposal, he said.

The European Parliament’s political groups met last Tuesday to take stock of the recommendations made by the European Commission in a working document submitted to the co-legislators in May (see EUROPE 13652/23).

The European Commission’s non paper makes some good proposals, whereas it falls a bit short in others”, Mr Heinäluoma told Agence Europe, adding that his group was calling for an “ambitious scope” to be established for ‘FiDA’.

Among its key demands, the S&D group supports a total exclusion of gatekeepers – the major dominant technological platforms – in the actual geopolitical situation.

The Social Democrats are also open to the use of a ‘Digital Identity Wallet’ to identify customers.

Finally, they oppose the replacement of level 2 measures with guidelines, considering these measures essential for consumer protection. (Original version in French by Bernard Denuit)
