03/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 2 February, the first rules of the Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Act) came into force in the EU. These include the definition of AI systems, AI literacy and a shortlist of prohibited uses of AI that present “unacceptable risks”. The Commission is also due to publish guidelines on the definition of AI systems, but is expected to publish guidelines on prohibited practices in the field of artificial intelligence. These guidelines, which are non-binding but linked to section 5 of the AI Act, should further clarify the definitions of “prohibited practices”. Their publication is scheduled for early February, but should have coincided with the entry into force of the first rules of the AI Act. (IS)
