03/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – For the first time, the European Union is publishing statistics on total allowable catches (TACs) and fishing days at sea (‘fishing effort’), announced the European Commission on Friday 31 January. TACs (https://aeur.eu/f/fc9 ) and fishing days (https://aeur.eu/f/fca ), the levels of which are published on the DG MARE website, are the two main management measures used under the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) to ensure sustainable fishing. The aim is to ensure transparency in the management of EU fish stocks, explains the Commission. The statistics published cover the year 2023 and will be updated each year for the previous year.
