03/02/25 (Agence Europe) – Dozens of migrants left Albania for Italy on Saturday 1 February, after the appeals court in Rome, the day before, once again invalidated the draft agreement between Rome and Tirana to send migrants rescued in Italian waters to centres in Albania. An Italian boat carrying 43 migrants left the Albanian port of Shëngjin just after midday on Saturday, AFP reported. The migrants were part of a group of 49 people intercepted by the Italian authorities as they attempted to cross the Mediterranean, before being taken to Albania, where they arrived on Tuesday. On 31 January, the appeals court in Rome referred the case to the European Court of Justice (CJEU) and indicated that the 43 migrants in Albania should be transferred to Italy. The system, which was set up at the end of 2023 between Rome and Tirana, has already been rejected twice by the court. (SP)
