20/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, has invited the European Union to deploy an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to monitor the country’s parliamentary elections scheduled for 9 February 2025. In response to this invitation, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas appointed Nathalie Loiseau (Renew Europe, French) as head of the mission on Friday 20 December. The aim of this initiative is “to support Kosovo in its efforts to further strengthen its democratic governance and guarantee an inclusive, credible and transparent election process”, according to a press release from the European External Action Service (EEAS). These elections will be the first to be held under the legislation of a new electoral law incorporating earlier EU recommendations, made as part of the reforms to be undertaken by the country as part of its EU accession process.
