According to draft conclusions from the 17 October summit, the European Council is expected to condemn Russia’s persistent foreign information manipulation and interference in its efforts to “undermine democratic elections” in Moldova and the Moldovan people’s choice “of a prosperous, stable and peaceful European future”. The first round of the presidential election and the referendum on EU membership will take place on 20 October. The European Council is expected to welcome the adoption on 14 October of new sanctions against individuals and entities that undermine the country’s sovereignty and independence (see EUROPE 13503/3). The leaders are also expected to underline the EU’s unwavering support for Moldova and its accession process, welcoming the Moldovan authorities’ ongoing commitment to the reform process and inviting them to pursue reforms and strengthen the country’s resilience and stability. https://aeur.eu/f/dwo (CG)
