16/10/24 (Agence Europe) – The EU27 will call on the European Commission to “urgently submit proposals” addressing the high energy prices observed in certain regions of the European Union, according to draft conclusions by the European Council dated Tuesday 15 October. During the summer of 2024, major spikes in energy prices were seen in Southeastern Europe, particularly in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. Factors under consideration include insufficient cross-border infrastructure between these countries, a lack of storage capacity and problems of flexibility in energy production and consumption (see EUROPE 13499/17). This issue was not included in the previous draft conclusions. See the European Council’s draft conclusions: https://aeur.eu/f/dwo (MB)
