16/10/24 (Agence Europe) – In its new World Energy Outlook 2024 report, published on Wednesday 16 October, the International Energy Agency (IEA) states that low-emission sources should produce more than half of the world’s electricity by 2030. At the same time, demand for coal, oil and gas is expected to peak by the end of the decade. More broadly, the report highlights a new energy market context in the coming years, marked by persistent geopolitical risks, but also by massive electrification and abundant reserves of oil, natural gas and clean energy technologies such as solar photovoltaics and batteries. Despite the growing momentum in favour of the transition to clean energy, the report notes that the world is still a long way from achieving its ‘net zero’ goals.
