16/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – The leaders of the European Union will ask the Venezuelan authorities to “respect the democratic will” of the Venezuelan people, according to draft European Council conclusions dated Tuesday 15 October, which do not modify an initial version of the text (see EUROPE 13502/31). The draft conclusions reiterate that the EU will only recognise results of the July presidential elections that are “complete and independently verifiable”. These elections resulted in the re-election of President Nicolás Maduro and the flight to Spain of the opposition candidate, Edmundo González (see EUROPE 13478/14).
