The G7 ministerial meeting on technology and digital issues was held on Wednesday 16 October in Cernobbio, Italy.
The summit was chaired by the Italian Under-Secretary of State for Technological Innovation, Alessio Butti, and resulted in a joint declaration recognising the importance of technological innovation for sustainable development and society.
The ministers present adopted a new development framework to ensure the “safe and reliable use of artificial intelligence systems in the public sector”.
“Today, in Cernobbio, we are presenting new tools for the digital transformation of the public sector, such as the toolbox on artificial intelligence, the compendium on digital public services and the mapping exercise on approaches to digital identity”, said Alessio Butti at the end of the meeting.
The toolkit is designed to help policy-makers and public sector officials to align the development of AI models with “the democratic values of the G7 countries, the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms”.
In their joint declaration, the G7 signatories reaffirm their “efforts to enhance interoperability” between the different national “AI governance approaches”.
