EU adopts sanctions against five individuals and one entity responsible for destabilising actions

On Monday 14 October, the Council of the EU adopted restrictive measures against five individuals and one entity responsible for actions destabilising the Republic of Moldova.

They are the governor of the autonomous territorial unit of Gagauzia, “responsible for promoting separatism in this region”, Evghenia Guţul, her deputy and media relations adviser, Mihail Vlah, the deputy head of the region’s foreign affairs department, Iurii Cuzneţov, and the deputy chairman of the executive committee and member of the Gagauz National Assembly, Illia Uzun. The Russian non-governmental association Evrazia, whose aim is to promote Russian interests abroad, particularly in Moldova, has also been targeted, as has its director and founder, Nelli Parutenco.

The persons and entities concerned are subject to an asset freeze and it is forbidden to provide them with funds or economic resources, either directly or indirectly. In addition, those penalised are subject to a ban on travelling within the European Union.

With these new measures, 16 people and 2 entities have been sanctioned in connection with their destabilising actions in Moldova.
