14/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 14 October, the Council of the European Union extended the Union’s restrictive measures against the proliferation and use of chemical weapons for a further year, until 16 October 2025. These sanctions are currently imposed on 25 individuals and three entities. They are subject to an asset freeze and a visa ban for individuals. EU persons and entities are prohibited from making funds, financial assets or economic resources available to them. This sanctions regime, adopted in October 2018, “aims to contribute to the EU’s efforts to counter the proliferation and use of chemical weapons, as well as to support the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction (CWC)”, the Council recalled in a statement.
