On Thursday 13 June, the EU Council adopted the agreement with the European Parliament on the revised regulation on the development of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) (see EUROPE 13317/7). The new legislation aims to build a reliable, seamless and high-quality transport network that provides sustainable connectivity across Europe without physical interruptions, bottlenecks and missing links.
This adoption “is definitely a milestone towards a sustainable and resilient network in Europe, which should address the mobility concerns of our citizens and businesses for the years to come”, commented Georges Gilkinet, Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Mobility, in a press release.
The revised regulation sets ambitious targets for Europe’s transport infrastructure, including: - rail travel speed; - the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS); - airport connectivity; - freight terminals.
The European Parliament also approved this agreement in April (see EUROPE 13398/34). The revised regulation will enter into force twenty days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
