The Member States’ ambassadors to the EU gave their agreement in principle to the negotiating frameworks for the accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on the evening of Friday 14 June, the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council announced on X.
“The Belgian Presidency will convene the first intergovernmental conferences on 25 June”, it added.
According to a European source, the Presidency had proposed a new compromise in the afternoon, which was therefore agreed in principle on the basis of these frameworks. Formal approval of the frameworks should take place at the Ecofin Council on Friday 21 June, “bearing in mind that the Netherlands still has a parliamentary reserve”, the source added. The decision is expected on Thursday.
