Committee of Regions commission for natural resources meets with chairman of strategic dialogue on future of agriculture

17/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – After receiving the chairman of the strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture on Friday 14 June, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) Commission for Natural Resources (NAT) discussed the future of the common agricultural policy (CAP) and the draft opinion adopted by the CoR in March 2024 (see EUROPE 13377/14). Local elected officials welcomed the first advances to emerge from the strategic dialogue, namely the simplification of administrative procedures and the interest shown in new generations. However, this committee is calling for changes to the CAP, such as greater inclusion of the regions in this policy’s management, for a CAP that is more “fair, sustainable and based on solidarity”. Finally, the members of this commission discussed cooperation between the CoR and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. (PC - intern)
