On Monday 17 June, more than 400 companies, associations, local entities and non-governmental associations called on the European leaders to ensure the ‘European Green Deal’ remained one of its priorities for the new mandate, as the “foundation for a competitive, secure, modern and efficient Europe”.
Faced with the consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the signatories believe that the ‘Green Deal’ is essential to address the triple energy dilemma of sustainability, affordability and security of supply. They also believe that this legislative package will provide the “coherence and regulatory stability” that European businesses and citizens need.
The signatories are all therefore calling for the European Green Deal to be one of the top priorities of the EU’s new strategic agenda, and for it to be accompanied by a ‘Clean’ Industrial Deal.
They are also calling for all EU financial instruments to be aligned with the Green Deal objectives for 2030 and beyond, and suggest appointing an Executive Vice-President of the Commission for both the Green Deal and the Industrial Deal.
