14/05/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 14 May, the Council of the European Union decided to extend the mandate of the European Union Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform in Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine) until 31 May 2027. Since 2014 (see EUROPE 11198/3), this mission has been helping the Ukrainians to develop “sustainable, accountable and efficient civil security services that strengthen the rule of law”, through strategic advice and practical support for specific reform measures in line with EU standards and international principles of good governance and human rights, the EU Council said in a statement. Since 2022, EUAM Ukraine has also provided support to facilitate the investigation and prosecution of international crimes committed in the context of Russian aggression, integrated border management and support to liberated territories (see EUROPE 12915/9).
