16 films supported by European Union compete at Cannes Festival

14/05/24 (Agence Europe)The 77th Cannes Film Festival, which opened on Tuesday 14 May, is showcasing 16 films, selected in seven categories, supported by the European Union. They include: Grand Tour, by Miguel Gomes (Portugal, Italy, France), All We Imagine as Light, by Payal Kapadia (India, France, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy), Limonov - The Ballad, by Kirill Serebrennikov (France, Italy, Spain) and The Girl with the Needle (Pigen med nålen), by Magnus von Horn (Denmark, Poland, Sweden) are in the running for the Palme d'Or. The 16 films were supported by the EU as part of the MEDIA strand of the Creative Europe programme and received over €800,000 in funding for their development and co-production. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Saturday 25 May. (NP)
