The EU Council definitively adopted, on Tuesday 14 May, the ten texts of the ‘Pact on Migration and Asylum’ presented in 2020 and the ‘Asylum Package’ presented in 2016 reforming European asylum and migration policies.
The European Parliament adopted this wide-ranging reform in plenary session on 10 April (see EUROPE 13388/11). On Tuesday 14 May, Poland and Hungary, unsurprisingly, voted against all the ‘Pact’ and ‘Package’ texts put to the vote; the Czech Republic and Slovakia abstained on all the texts, with the exception, for Slovakia, of the regulations on crisis management and the asylum and migration management regulation (AMMR), which the country supported. Regarding Malta and Austria, they abstained on the ‘Asylum Procedures’ and AMMR texts for Malta, and on the ‘Qualifications’ and AMMR texts for Austria.
