08/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 8 May, the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) discussed the agreement on value added tax (VAT) in the digital age (ViDA) with a view to reaching a political agreement at the next Ecofin Council meeting on Tuesday 14 May (see EUROPE 13405/9).
However, this discussion did not reach a conclusion. “Estonia is still very conservative, so we’re going to continue to work and bring the ministers up to ministerial level on Tuesday, in the hope of being able to land at that point”, said a European source contacted by Agence Europe after the Coreper meeting.Another source, contacted on the same day, explained that Estonia wants the exemption, under which small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are not considered as deemed service providers, to be extended to platforms. So, for them, this would be “optional”, stressed the source. (Original version in French by Anne Damiani, with the editorial staff)
