ENTSOG and ENTSO-E publish progress report on joint interlinked model for electricity and hydrogen

On Tuesday 7 May, ENTSOG and ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for gas and electricity, published their report on the status of the 2024 Interlinked Model (ILM) and opened a public consultation until 18 June.

This report presents an assessment methodology for both electricity and hydrogen and includes recommendations for the use of integrated models in the cost-benefit analyses of their Ten-Year Network Development Plans (TYNDPs).

The report stresses the importance of cooperation between the different energy systems in terms of transmission and distribution in order to offer greater flexibility, use energy sources more efficiently and thus achieve the EU’s decarbonisation objectives.

Piotr Kuś, General Director of ENTSOG, emphasised the development of this interconnected model, which enables hydrogen, electricity and electrolyser projects to be tested and contributes “to understanding the impact of the energy transition on Europe’s future hydrogen and electricity networks”.

This report represents a further step in the coordinated planning of the system across sectors, in compliance with Article 11 of EU Regulation 2022/869.
