08/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – The NGO PAN Europe sent a letter to Bernhard Url, Executive Director of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), on Wednesday 8 May, expressing its serious concerns about the risk posed by the increasing detection of PFAS (per and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in EU fruit and vegetables, and about the current limits of the assessment of these substances and their metabolite, trifluoroacetic acid. The current situation does not guarantee the high level of protection for European citizens and the environment required by Regulation 1107/2009 (placing plant protection products on the market), particularly with regard to the cumulative effects of these substances, which have still not been taken into account, according to PAN Europe, which is requesting a meeting with Mr Url to discuss this issue.
