European Commission registers a new Slovak agricultural name

08/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 8 May, the European Commission announced the addition of ‘Trenčianska borovička JUNIPERUS’, a spirit drink from Slovakia, to the register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). ‘Trenčianska borovička JUNIPERUS’ is a clear, colourless spirit drink with an alcohol content of 42% vol. that has a pronounced aroma and intense taste of common juniper and prickly juniper. ‘Trenčianska borovička JUNIPERUS’ is produced using aged juniper spirit, refined neutral spirit and liquid sugar. Juniper distillate is the main ingredient that gives this spirit its specific properties and distinctive character. Production takes place in the town of Trenčín. This new designation will be added to the list of 1,910 wines and spirit drinks already protected at EU level. (LC)
