On Tuesday 7 May, the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) announced that on 26 April it had received a proposal from all the Nominated Electricity Market Operators (NEMOs) to modify the methodology for single day-ahead coupling products.
This methodology, governed by the Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management (CACM) Regulation, defines all the products eligible for the EU’s single day-ahead coupling.
Every two years, NEMOs must ensure that the products listed meet market needs, operational safety standards and regulatory objectives.
In 2023, NEMOs launched a public consultation to assess the need to amend the latest version of the methodology approved in December 2020.
Today, they are proposing to amend it to allow the implementation of 15-minute Market Time Unit (MTU) products into the single day-ahead coupling, scheduled for January 2025, to improve market flexibility and comply with EU regulations.
ACER is expected to decide on the amended methodology by September 2024.
