08/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – The European Union delegation in Chad deplored, on Tuesday 7 May on Facebook, the non-accreditation of several Chadian civil society organisations as observers of the presidential elections. A total of 2,900 observers were excluded from Monday’s poll, according to AFP. “In so doing, the ANG [Agence Nationale de Gestion des Élections] has prevented them from contributing to the transparency of the electoral process in Chad, financed to the tune of 3.8 million with EU funds” wrote the European diplomatic post in N’Djamena. On Wednesday, the Chadian Prime Minister’s party, Succès Masra, denounced “violence and serious threats” against him and his supporters, as well as fraud, while the vote count was still in progress. Mr Masra is running against the transitional president, General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who had appointed him prime minister on 1 January. (BD)
