EU does not renew mandate of its EUTM Mali mission
08/05/2024 (Agence Europe) –
On Wednesday 8 May, the European External Action Service announced the end of the EU’s training mission in Mali, EUTM Mali. “The Member States of the European Union have decided by common accord not to extend the mandate of the EUTM Mali mission beyond 18 May 2024, following the strategic review and consultations with the Malian authorities and taking into account developments in the political and security situation on the ground”, said the EEAS in a statement. Since April 2022, the EU has suspended some of the mission’s training courses because of abuses carried out by the armed forces with the support of Wagner mercenaries. (CG)
