04/03/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 2 March, the EU expressed its “deep concern” following the violence in N’Djamena. On Wednesday 28 February, the capital of Chad was the scene of an army assault on the headquarters of the Parti Socialiste Sans Frontières (PSF), killing Yaya Dillo Djérou, the main opponent of the ruling military junta. According to the Army, Mr Dillo had instigated an “assassination attempt” on the President of the Supreme Court and an attack on the intelligence services. AFP reports. “The EU calls for the facts to be clarified and for responsibilities to be established in an independent and credible manner. These events undermine the efforts needed to ensure a transparent, pluralist, inclusive and peaceful transition, which the EU continues to support”, said the spokesman for the External Action Service in a statement on Saturday. Presidential elections are due to be held in Chad on Monday 6 May. (BD)
