20/11/23 (Agence Europe) – The Renewable Energy Directive, which was published in the Official Journal of the EU on 31 October (see EUROPE 13283/21), came into force on Monday 20 November. Building on the 2009 and 2018 directives, the revised directive introduces stricter measures to ensure the development of renewable energies and sets an overall European renewable energy target of at least 42.5%, binding at EU level, by 2030. There will be an 18-month period to transpose most of the directive’s provisions into national law, with a shorter deadline of July 2024 for certain provisions relating to the licensing procedure.
