31/10/23 (Agence Europe) – The Renewable Energy Directive was published in the Official Journal of the EU on Tuesday 31 October. The EU Council came out in favour of revising the directive on 9 September (see EUROPE 13267/30). This revision aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 42.5% of the EU’s overall energy consumption by 2030, up from the current 32%, with an indicative top-up of 2.5% to reach 45% (see EUROPE 13153/1; 13204/3). The directive will come into force within 20 days of publication in the Official Journal of the EU. The Member States will then have 18 months to transpose it into their national legislation.
