In July 2023, imports and exports slowed down compared to the previous month, but this had no impact on the EU’s trade balance for agri-food products, which remained positive at €6.2 billion, according to the latest monthly report on EU agri-food trade, published on 26 October.
The cumulative trade balance from January to July 2023 was €38.6 billion, an increase of €7.3 billion on the same period last year. The Commission notes a significant fall in EU exports in July. For the first time this year, their level is below that of the previous year (-5% compared with July 2022).
At the same time, imports continued to decline (-11% compared with June and -17% compared with July 2022). The Commission believes that this change in the value of imports is linked to a fall in import prices since the beginning of 2023.
