European Commission approves two new French geographical indications

31/10/23 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday, 31 October, the European Commission approved the addition of the French oyster ‘Huître de Normandie’ to the Community register of protected geographical indications (PGIs) and the French olive oil ‘Huile d’olive du Languedoc’ to that of protected designations of origin (PDOs). “‘Huître de Normandie’ is a fresh, whole cupped oyster. It has a hard outer shell that is uniform, with no chipped or brittle parts. [...] The meat is ivory/pearly white to beige in colour with pearly grey reflections,” the European Commission explains in its press release. It adds, “The muscle is firm and keeps the shell hermetically sealed during transport and for the entire duration of the marketing of the oysters, thus ensuring that the ‘Huître de Normandie’ stays fresh.” ‘Huile d’olive du Languedoc’ is predominantly made from either the ‘Lucques’ variety or the ‘Olivière’ variety or a blend of these varieties.
