09/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 September, the Council of the European Union adopted the revised Renewable Energy Directive, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 42.5% of the EU’s overall energy consumption by 2030. Only Hungary and Poland voted against the text. Bulgaria and the Czech Republic abstained. In addition, five Member States have published a statement detailing national reservations and difficulties. Following adoption by the European Parliament (see EUROPE 13248/3), this EU Council vote means that the directive has been formally adopted. It will now be published in the Official Journal of the EU and come into force within 20 days. Member States will have 18 months after the entry into force of the directive to transpose it into their national legislation.
